Our story
My husband and I have always dreamed of cultivating a piece of land – not just for commerical reasons but for a deeper more meaingful sense of purpose and fulfillment. After 20 years teaching in primary schools and advising on Special Needs education, it felt the right time to move into something more outdoors based which also utilised more of my creative side.
Although I have always loved flowers, plants and gardening it was after an operation made me quite ill, that my lovely Mum Iris and Dad David, sent me the most beautiful (huge) bouquet ! Working with these flowers, re-arranging them into a variety of different vases, containers and jars – as many as I could find in the house – started my floristry journey. I realised the sense of calm, peace and healing the flowers had given me. As a qualified Reiki practitioner and healer, I made a new and invigorated connection with flowers and the therapuetic effect they have on the senses, mood and emotions.
I enrolled on an introductory floristry course in Bristol which then lead me into studying for my floristry diploma and gaining a distinction and becoming a fully qualified florist!
At the same time my husband and I found the perfect piece of land – something better than we could have imagined ! A very neglected heritage cider orchard – 30 years worth of brambles covered what had been and is now again a beautiful orchard full of cider apples trees – thanks to the incredible hard work and dedication of my wonderful husband Toby.
He also created for me with his youngest son, an amazing flower patch which is where we now grow our own flowers from Spring to Autumn. It is a family affair with Toby’s sons, daughter, their partners and now our grandchildren helping to continue the restoration of this truly magical place.
